Core Immunisation programme: This two-day core immunisation course is aimed at both registered and non-registered practitioners with limited experience in the field of national immunisation programmes. The course will enable students to meet Public Health England  national standards for administering immunisations.

It will explain the following:

The aims of immunisation programmes, in terms of national and local policy

The immune response to vaccines and how vaccines work

The different types of vaccines, their composition including indications and contra-indications

Current issues in immunisation

Communication during immunistaion consultations

Legalities of delivering an immunisation programme

Storage and handling of vaccines

Correct administration of vaccines

Anaphylaxis and adverse reactions

Documentation and record keeping

Strategies for improving uptake.

 

The course is delivered via 2  classroom taught sessions, which you must attend both days. A competency document reflecting the Royal College of Nursing and Public Health England standards will be provided for you to complete in practice following the course.
